The annual Playing for Pets game-a-thon, hosted by HAC professor Justin Young and his honors course Video Games: Art, Culture, and History of a Medium, is right around the corner. Come and play video games to your heart’s content on April 13-14 from 8 am to 8 am.

Playing for Pets is a twenty-four-hour video game marathon hosting all varieties of video games and even some tabletop role-playing games, and this year, for the first time ever, it will also be the site of a cosplay contest. Playing for Pets, as the event title insinuates, is more than just playing games. During the duration of the event donations will be accepted to help support the homeless animals at the Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County via a GoFundMe page.

Games played during the event include Overwatch, Rocket League, Gang Beasts and many more, and students are excited about the way the event is branching out. “It’s incredible how the event has grown every year,” said senior English and communication major Alexis DeLancey-Christiansen. “This will make my third year being part of the event, and now it’s console gaming, PC gaming, tabletop gaming, cosplay. Everyone really loves it.” Adding to that feeling of community, many of your favorite professors will also be in attendance and participating in the gameplay. You not only get to see your professors play games you might even get to play alongside them – a schedule of staff and faculty that have arranged to be at the event can be found on our website.

So, if you find yourself free anytime from 8 am this Friday to 8 am this Saturday come down to Taylor Hall and play some video games to help show support for our community’s pets that haven’t had the chance to find homes yet.
